We are seeking a dedicated Safety Coordinator to oversee and enforce safety policies and procedures at our construction sites in Edmonton & Leduc. The Safety Coordinator will ensure compliance with all local and provincial safety regulations while fostering a culture of safety among employees and subcontractors.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements and maintains safety programs, policies and procedures such as fitness for work and post-incident.
  • Report any unsafe acts, conditions, or accidents to management
  • Liaises with other members of the Safety and HR Team to resolve issues relating to Return to Work and Critical Injuries.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, providing reports and recommendations.
  • Prepares reports and presents to the Senior Leadership Team on health and safety.
  • Conduct and review hazard assessments to ensure compliance with Whissell’ s HSE program, site requirements, and legislated standards
  • Act as a liaison between management and field staff for HSE concerns
  • Recommend suitable strategies to area management to proactively reduce risks and potential loss exposure
  • Develop and maintain company HSE policies and procedures
  • Monitor and provide direction around HSE standards with the start-up and shut-down of sites
  • Maintain knowledge of all applicable legislative standards
  • Comply with Whissell and local OH&S regulations
  • Monitor employee compliance with OH&S rules and standards

Essential Qualifications:

  • MINIMUM of 2 years of experience in an HSE role
  • Experience in the heavy civil construction industry required
  • Completion of NCSO ( pursuing an NCSO): Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, normally acquired through a university degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Train the Trainer for WHMIS, TDG, Flag person and First Aid an asset

All Whissell employees must undergo a Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Test and submit a valid Driver’s Abstract (issued no more than three months prior) before starting work.
