Closeout of a Construction Project (December 3)

Closeout of a Construction Project (December 3)

December 3, 2024 10:30 AM - December 4, 2024 2:00 PM (MST)

Description

Setting up a construction project to close it out is the focus of this workshop.

The principles of how organizing early, teamwork and communication work together to achieve a successful project closeout will be discussed. Turning over the building to the owner effectively will support positive relationships, perhaps more future business, and timely payments – if you can’t get it done, you can’t get paid.

While preparing the project closeout submittals is a very important part to a great closeout, the way the project is turned over to the owner counts just as much. CCDC2 2020 has been updated to include “Owner Take-over” which clearly outlines the roles and responsibilities of the contractor. There is a great deal to know about a proper, efficient and complete project turnover.

Best practices and checklists supplement the topics of discussion that include:

  • Setting up the project from pre-construction to building turnover
  • Gathering, managing, and submitting project closeout submittals
  • Understanding contractual project closeout requirements
  • Learning the importance of managing quality throughout the project to reduce deficiencies at the end of the project
  • Understanding how deficiencies, occupancy and substantial performance are intrinsically tied together and the roles of the owner, consultant, general contractor and subcontractor each have in this process
  • Identifying the key processes for turning over a building including a building turnover meeting
  • Learning how to close out your own organization, including project evaluation, a project evaluation meeting and lessons learned so that the company can realize what went well and what did not go so well

Participants will be introduced to best practices and “tips and tricks” that will expedite and simplify the takeover of a project by its owner from the contractor so that the last 3% of the project is not 15% of the effort.

Newly updated and exclusive to this workshop is a comprehensive manual that is used as a reference and guide throughout the sessions. The manual is based on accumulated knowledge gathered over 40 years in the construction industry. It is a valuable and effective tool that contains not only practical how-to’s, checklists and templates but will also be a foundation for new processes and procedures back in the office or on the jobsite. In addition, registrants will be provided with all native templates of the checklists and spreadsheets.
